So, remember how Mormon Entrepreneur began? A year ago, I walked away from my first failed entrepreneurial attempt, ShoppeSeven.com. Desperate to get smarter, I sought out a great entrepreneur to become his apprentice? Remember? Well, that day has come. MashWorx has been selected for mentorship and investing by BoomStartUp. Yahoo! No, MashWooorx! So, what does this mean? Mentorship, money and magic. Well, the last time I checked there was no magic, but you should expect to see some form of awesome entrepreneurial mojo this summer. Josh James, John Pestana, Robb Kunz and handful of other superhero-entrepreneurs are going to mentor my team and prepare our company for sales, scale and a VC-Angel showcase this September. This summer should be hot!
Speaking of hotness, Mormon Entrepreneur traveled down to southern Utah last month to interview Michelle & Cameron Kelsch for this issue of Mormon Entrepreneur. Michelle & Cameron are the owners of The Biggest Loser Resort at Fitness Ridge. Styled like NBCs television show “The Biggest Loser,” the Resort offers a boot camp-style program for men and women of any fitness level who who want to loose weight and change their lives. And trust me, this is no ordinary weight loss program. Meals are crafted by their in-house award winning chef, exercises are tailored to your level of fitness, and classes are led by what patrons say is “the best staff in America.” And, awards prove it: the Biggest Loser Resort at Fitness Ridge was ranked the #1 resort in America last year. Pretty Amazing.
My interview with Michelle & Cameron was a delight. We talked about their entrepreneurial beginnings. Cameron shared about the Resort’s relationship with NBCs television series “The Biggest Loser.” We discussed company culture, finding balance in a couple-led businesses, and the future of the resort. Michelle even took me through her calorie-analysis to determine my health scale. Yes, all of you are going to know my weight and how much I need to loose. Yikes! At least I didn’t have to take off my shirt and get on one of those ginormous “Biggest Loser” scales. I raise my glass of Root Beer – well, it probably should water – to every contestant who has done so.
Enjoy this issue of Mormon Entrepreneur. Look forwards to an issue on BoomStartUp for July. I’ve already begun interviewing its mentors and look forward to interview the rest.
Expect one hot summer for 2010.
